The Star-Telegram
By Jason Buch

FORT WORTH — A woman eluded an attempted kidnapping Friday by grabbing the would-be abductor’s crotch.

The 18-year-old woman was walking in the 3800 block of Maurice Avenue at about noon when a man in a car offered her a ride. After she refused repeatedly, the man got out, grabbed her by the hair and ordered her to get in, said Lt. Paul Henderson, a police spokesman.

When the woman fought back, the man threw her to the ground and kicked her in the ribs, Henderson said.

Bird paraphernalia found along with painkillers and steroids

Police broke up a suspected cock-fighting event this morning in unincorporated Santa Clara County that could have ended with up to 100 roosters dead, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 10:30 a.m. sheriff’s deputies responded to a neighbor’s report of loud bird noises at 3770 Quimby Road, Santa Clara County Sgt. Ed Wise said.

As soon as police arrived at the four-acre ranch, a group of men at the premises took off running, Wise said.

Approximately 70 to 100 roosters were located on the property, all being kept in separate cages, according to Wise.

How violent taboos were blown away

Bonnie and Clyde shocked and thrilled the world when it was released in 1967. But the legacy of this savage classic is that it opened the floodgates for all forms of screen violence over the next 40 years

Bonnie and Clyde opened in London 40 years ago, which is to say exactly at the halfway point between the present and the coming of talking pictures in 1927, and it now stands as a landmark in cinematic history in several ways, not least for its legacy of screen violence. The reception here was largely positive, and I’ve rarely sensed such excitement at a press show as that morning at the Warner Leicester Square (now the Vue).

Daily Mail (UK)
By Jaya Narain

Masked, a revolver clutched in a gloved hand and pointed straight at the camera, this is how the rival gang members portray themselves on the internet.

Other chilling shots - available to anyone who logs on to the website YouTube - show how they terrorise the neighbourhood on quad-bikes, ride wheelies on motorbikes and perform handbrake turns on busy roads in their high-performance cars.

The Croxteth Crew and the Strand Crew of Norris Green both have a hard core of 15 members aged between 13 and their mid-20s but can call on reinforcements when required.

Vick’s Case Puts Dogfighting Culture in the Spotlight

It’s a disturbing narrative, the 19-page indictment of football star Michael Vick and three of his friends. Perhaps the details shocked people unfamiliar with the secretive world of illegal dogfighting: the breeding and training of pit bulls for savage, high-stakes combat and the brutal executions of dogs that fail to measure up.

Dogs shot, hanged, drowned, beaten, electrocuted. An awful story.

When a woman is attacked in a St. Paul apartment hallway, only one man tries to help. Many others turn their backs.

As many as 10 people witnessed a man raping and beating a woman early Tuesday in the hallway of a St. Paul apartment building, police said Wednesday.

No one stopped it.

At one point, the 26-year-old victim knocked on a door, yelling for the occupants to call police. A man inside told police he didn’t open the door or look out, though he said he called police. Police found no record of the call, according to an affidavit for a search warrant filed in Ramsey County District Court.

Arresting one of its own, IMPD draws praise

Police critics also laud video’s release after beating near Black Expo

The Rev. Charles Harrison predicts a video showing an officer punch and kick a 17-year-old boy at Indiana Black Expo’s Summer Celebration will outrage the community.

But Harrison also sees the release of the video and the arrest of Officer Adam Chappell as signs that the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is taking a stand against brutality within its ranks.

“This will only validate (police brutality complaints) some say is going on all the time, especially with young black males,” said Harrison, pastor of Barnes United Methodist Church on the Near Northside and a longtime community activist. “You have to feel good and encouraged that someone from the department did shoot that video and that it wasn’t swept under the rug.”
