FORT MYERS - Churches are using controversial ads to get people in the pews. The latest billboard is boasting porn and pancakes. But WINK News finds out, it’s a way of reaching out to those who are addicted to porn.

Drivers on Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers are taking notice. It’s an ad for porn and pancakes, that First Assembly Ministries put up because they say porn is destroying families and people’s lives.

“Porn and pancakes…they don’t go together,” Fort Myers Resident Curtis Douglas.

“That’s really weird,” said Jennifer Badilla of Cape Coral.

Nearly Half Of Youths See At Least 1 Parent As Hero

WASHINGTON — A new poll suggests young Americans are putting their parents at the top of the list of their heroes.

According to The Associated Press and MTV, 29 percent of those surveyed about who they most admire choose their mothers, 21 percent name their fathers and 16 percent pick their parents without specifying which one. Allowed to choose as many heroes as they’d like, nearly half mention at least one of their folks.

She thought it was the 5- year-old neighbor coming to play with the cat, so Kei Torres didn’t think much of the doorbell ring.

Her friend had flown up from Houston to Torres’ home in Washington state and they were going to see the Seattle Mariners game that night. Torres had one shoe on and was holding the other.

LITTLE ROCK — It’s a girl — again — for the Duggars.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar welcomed their 17th child, and seventh daughter, into the world Thursday.

Jennifer Danielle was born at 10:01 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rogers, Ark., the Duggars said in an interview. Jennifer weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and arrived five days after Michelle’s due date.

Less than 30 minutes after giving birth, the Duggars already were talking of having more.

NEW YORK -One of the least covered aspects of the fallout from the Iraq war is the rising toll of suicides, both near the battlefield and back home.

Latest official figures released by the Pentagon reveal at least 116 self-inflicted fatalities in Iraq. But this does not include several dozen still under investigation, nor any of the many cases back in the U.S.

Live grenade turns up at trash recycling plant

INDUSTRY - Sheriff’s bomb squad experts evacuated 500 people and removed a live rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) from a trash processing plant on Friday afternoon, officials said.

The grenade was discovered at about 10:30 a.m. Friday at Athens Service’s Materials Recycling Facility in the 14000 block of Valley Boulevard.

“An employee spotted the device, we shut the plant down and employees were evacuated,” said Chris Carlos, the company’s director of governmental affairs.

N.H. town wants residents to pay tolls with pennies

Officials want residents to pay tolls on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in pennies one day next month to protest the failure of a toll-relief plan.

The Town Council voted unanimously this week for a “Toll Revolt Day” on Aug. 27.

US soldier pays man to shoot him in the leg to avoid returning to Iraq

NEW YORK: A soldier who recently returned from Iraq has admitted he paid someone $500 (€365) to shoot him in the leg so he could avoid returning for another tour.

Jonathan Aponte, 20, claimed he had been robbed and shot but changed his story when police questioned him, authorities said. Aponte, who was facing another eight-month tour, had been scheduled to leave last Monday.

WILLISTON, Vt. –A decade-old box of M-80 firecrackers exploded and killed a man using a cutting torch to open an abandoned safe, police said.

Anthony Boisvert, 20, of Colchester, died in the blast Tuesday afternoon while he worked in a service bay at Demag Construction.
